And a traumatic time was had by all!

I had decided to try and get (seperate!) Holiday portraits of Sammy (the cat) and Rochelle (the turtle) the other day, using a super quick little setup in the window-sill and beautiful natural lighting. Bad idea!

Do you know how hard it is to get a turtle to keep a santa hat on their head? First off, Shelly kept pulling her head back into her shell and losing the hat. Then she decided to take her head and nudge the hat into a corner and stand on it.

While this fiasco was going on, Sam decided that he was having none of it and was not going to be ignored. So he climbed up into the photograph and nearly sat on Shelly. :giggle: At which point, I decided to be really adventurous and try to get the two of them to pose together . . . .

I did some super quick adjustments to my dumb little set-up, and then plopped Shelly on top of Sam to try and get a good shot of them interacting. Sammy sat there looking peeved as hell that I had antlers on his head, and Shelly kept knocking her hat off. After a few attempts at this, Sammy got wise and decided, well, doesn't that hat look tasty? Of course, Shelly was finally behaving herself and sitting nice with her hat on, so Sammy nearly ate her head.

At that point, I realized that this was pretty hopeless and was trying to squeeze one last pathetic shot out of it when....Rochelle took a dump on Sammy!   He sat up very straight and made this indignified face, and I lost it. Totally lost it.

We may try this again if I'm feeling brave, but for now this was the best shot . . . .

Oh, you are doing the pet contest again this year? :bounce: I'm excited to hear that, hon, as I had photographed the turtle for the contest! :giggle:

:wow: I am so touched! Yep, I plan on having it every year as long as it still seems to be well received! :D

Well, last year was my first year hearing about it, but this year I was prepared and ready ahead of time! :boogie: I think it's a fabulous and fun idea for a contest!

I'll be pimping it in my weekly blog on Friday. :D

OMG those are some fun sounding animals. I bet shelly would have liked our turtle Oogie Boogie (like nightmare before christmas) he was a cool turtle. Anyway good luck if you decide to do another photo shoot with these too. You are gonna need it.

Aww, Oogie Boogie is a cute name! :giggle: My brother used to have a leopard gecko named Rikitikitavi (or Riki, for short)- that was the best pet name we've had at my house. :giggle:

Thanks, hon. :huggle: I don't know that I have the patience to try again, though I'd love to get a better shot of them together! :giggle:

ROFL. RIkitikitavi is so Kiplings best story ever! :w00t: I literally read it 100 times when i was a kid (and watched the cartoon movie) I wish I had thought to name a pet that. :evillaugh:I really wanna do a costume pic with my cat but he is so hyper and fidgety that I doubt it would work. Ah well nothing ventured right ;)

You can always give it a try! If it fails, you'll be the only one that ever knows, right? Or, well, the cat will know but I doubt he'll tell. ;)

Rikitikitavi was a great name! I wish I could take credit, but as I said- she was my brother's gecko. He also named the turtle Rochelle so we could call her "Shelly" for short. :giggle: The best pet names I ever came up with were...Hmm. I had gerbils named Pina (as in Pina Colada) and Cobain. :giggle:

:paranoid: oh he would find a way to tell on me. He is very quick to discuss his injured pride.

And Pina and Cobain are awesome names. My cat is named Xanax, after a long standing tradition among my friends to name animals after psych meds. *shrugs* that and he could use some cause he is a lil on the :sprint: side.
